I recently sat down with Remington Ramsey on the Real Producers Podcast to talk about something I’m incredibly passionate about—how to build a culture that not only works, but wins. As I shared in our conversation (and go much deeper into in my new book  Capture the Culture), the heartbeat of any high-performing team is its people—and more specifically, understanding what drives them.

One of the first things I shared is how critical it is for leaders to know the individual “whys” of their team members. That’s where culture begins. When you understand what motivates someone at their core, you can create opportunities that align with those motivations. Not handouts—opportunities. I said on the show, “I’m not here to serve everything on a silver platter, but I will absolutely make sure the right doors are open. It’s up to them to walk through and execute.”

When people feel fulfilled, challenged, and seen, their performance multiplies. That’s when you go from good to magnetic.

Another part of the culture I’ve built is about empowering ownership. I shared a simple but powerful standard I hold: “Don’t just bring me a problem—bring your idea for the solution.” It might seem small, but it shifts the mindset from dependency to leadership. I want my team to hear me say, ‘Yes—that’s exactly how I’d approach it. Run with it.’ That moment of validation breeds confidence, and confidence creates momentum.

At the core of Capture the Culture is this truth: The best leaders don’t micromanage—they cultivate. They challenge. They champion. They create a space where others rise, think independently, and own their growth.
